Dr. Liz Keneski, Commencement Speaker
Dr. Liz Keneski is the director of Privacy Research at Meta (formerly Facebook) where she leads a team of researchers who aim to improve the relationship between users and technology. To complete their work, this team uses research tools from myriad fields including statistics, psychology, communications, and anthropology.
Dr. Keneski uses her foundation in psychology and human development and family studies in her work at Meta. She found an early passion for science in a high school psychology course that took the foundations of science and applied them to people. This led Dr. Keneski to complete her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Colorado State University in 2009, with a minor in business. It was in her undergraduate social psychology course that Dr. Keneski developed an interest in the study of relationships. She had the opportunity to do research alongside CSU faculty members where she furthered her interest in how our social interactions and relationships affect our physical well-being. This led her to pursue a master’s and doctorate degree in Human Development and Family Studies from The University of Texas at Austin.
Following her graduate studies, Dr. Keneski worked in academia for a few years and then pursued an internship opportunity at Facebook with the user experience researcher group. She fell in love with that work and knew within a couple of weeks that research on human-computer interaction was what she wanted to pursue. Dr. Keneski moved from being an intern, to a researcher, to a research manager, and then finally to a director across two different areas – Facebook App Sharing and Privacy. She uses her foundation in psychology on a daily basis in her work for Meta, her deep understanding of human relationships, social interactions, and well-being are directly related to her work.
