Miranda Ballentine, Commencement Speaker
Miranda Ballentine, a 1996 graduate in psychology from Colorado State University, will serve as the 2024 Commencement Speaker for the College of Natural Sciences. Ballentine received her M.B.A. in Environmental Management and Policy from the George Washington University School of Business. She has focused her career on environ- mental and sustainability strategies and development for numerous organizations including as the Director of Sustainability, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Facilities for Walmart and the Assistant Secretary, Installations, Environment, Energy for the United States Air Force. Ballentine founded numerous companies, most notably, the Clean Energy Buyers Association whose mission is to “achieve a 90% carbon-free U.S. electricity system and cultivate a global community of energy customers driving clean energy,” where she served as Founding CEO until the end of 2023.
Ballentine’s leadership in sustainability and climate initiatives has been recognized through numerous global awards including being named to the inaugural TIME100 CLIMATE list, honoring individuals who are making significant progress in fighting climate change. She was selected to join the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders, and she was named Woman of the Year by the Women’s Council on Environment and Energy. In 2016, Miranda was honored with the Air Force’s highest civilian award, the Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service to the United States Air Force.
